What is the Cost of a 1-Bedroom Property in Europe (and Dubai)?
One-bedroom properties are popular with first-time buyers, expatriates, and small households, but prices can vary enormously from city to city. In European capitals, costs are often significantly higher than in other parts of the world. Below is an overview of the average entry-level prices for a small one-bedroom property in various cities.
In Amsterdam, you can easily pay around €400,000 for a very compact property. Demand is high and supply is limited, which drives prices up considerably. In Munich, the average price is between €450,000 and €550,000, depending on the location and finish. The German city has been popular with international buyers for years.
In Switzerland, Zurich leads the way when it comes to property prices. A one-bedroom apartment there starts at around €650,000, partly due to the high income levels and limited building space. In Paris, the lower limit for a decent property is around €600,000, certainly in the better neighbourhoods. And in London, where the property market is a world of its own, you can easily pay €700,000 for a small property in the centre. The space is often so limited that even a dog would struggle to turn around.
Then there is Monaco, where for one million euros you can only acquire a studio. Land there is scarce, and the market focuses primarily on the absolute top of the segment.
Dubai as a Striking Exception
In contrast to all these expensive cities, Dubai stands out. There, you can buy a studio for as little as €150,000, often with a flexible payment plan spread over 4 to 5 years. For that amount, you get a modern home in one of the world's fastest-growing cities. The difference in price level is enormous and makes Dubai an interesting option for those looking for affordable living in an international environment.

Although the choice ultimately depends on personal preference and lifestyle, it is clear that a one-bedroom property in Europe is significantly more expensive than in Dubai.
