UAE a Popular Choice for Digital Nomads in 2025
The United Arab Emirates has risen to second place globally for digital nomads in 2025, according to a recent ranking by Immigrant Invest and VisaGuide. Two years ago, the country was in fourth place. This rise is not unexpected: the combination of technological advancement, tax benefits and safety makes the country attractive for remote workers.
Why More Digital Nomads are Choosing the Emirates
One of its greatest assets is the digital infrastructure. With average internet speeds above 250 Mbps and full 5G coverage, cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi are among the world's best. Dubai was even named the best city in the world for remote workers, with Abu Dhabi in fourth place. Furthermore, there are numerous modern co-working spaces and digital government services that simplify administrative matters.
Financially, it is also advantageous. There is no income tax, meaning digital nomads keep more of their earnings. Although the cost of living varies by emirate and lifestyle, there are both luxury and affordable options. The introduction of the remote work visa in 2021 also makes it possible to work legally from the country. This visa is renewable annually and requires a monthly salary of at least $5,000, a valid passport, health insurance and proof of employment.
The Emirates are also attractive due to their safety, political stability and high quality of healthcare. Expatriates make up 90% of the population, creating an international atmosphere. English is the primary language of business, which eases the transition for many digital nomads. However, there are some factors to consider, such as high summer temperatures, local customs and regulations concerning social media and alcohol.
With an estimated 40 million digital nomads worldwide and expected growth to 1 billion by 2035, the UAE is smartly positioning itself as a hotspot for this rapidly growing group. Its progressive policies and investments in infrastructure lay the foundation for sustained appeal to the international remote worker.
