Renewing Your Emirates ID Now Supersimple: Just One Step
The UAE has taken a major step towards digital efficiency. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) has significantly simplified the process for renewing the Emirates ID for Emirati citizens. What once required multiple steps and forms has now been reduced to just one simple action.
From Paperwork to One Digital Step
Previously, renewing your Emirates ID required filling in personal details, providing address information, submitting documents, and waiting for processing. That is all now a thing of the past. The new procedure consists of just two steps: submitting the application and paying the fees.
All required data is automatically retrieved from government databases. This means you no longer need to enter your information repeatedly. Manual fields, such as entering your address, have also been eliminated as they are no longer necessary.
Automatic Validity and Smart Renewal
The validity of the new Emirates ID is automatically determined based on your age:
- Citizens aged 21 and over receive a card valid for 10 years
- Citizens under 21 receive a card valid for 5 years
This validity period is automatically calculated and cannot be adjusted. Notably, there is a distinction between a renewal and a replacement. When replacing a lost or damaged card, you retain the remaining validity of the original card. This ensures you do not lose validity you have already paid for, demonstrating that the system is designed with the user in mind.
Everything is processed via ICP's smart online platform. For standard renewals or replacements, a physical visit is no longer required. This simplification is part of a broader "zero bureaucracy" approach through which the UAE is continually optimising its digital government services.
