Booking Flight Tickets with Crypto in the UAE: How It Works

An increasing number of airlines and travel platforms in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are accepting cryptocurrency as a payment method. Major names such as Emirates and Air Arabia are capitalising on this trend, and platforms like Travala and Alternative Airlines also enable flights to be booked with digital currencies.

This development aligns with the country's technological ambitions and particularly attracts digital nomads and travellers who appreciate flexible payment options.

In the UAE, you can not only purchase flight tickets with crypto, but also property.

How to Pay for Your Flight with Crypto

Paying for flights directly with crypto is usually not possible with the airline itself, but it is possible through partners like Crypto.com or platforms such as Travala. The process is quite simple. You choose a platform that supports crypto, enter your flight details, select the crypto payment option at checkout, and connect your wallet. After the payment is approved, you will receive your e-ticket by email.

Some platforms, such as Alternative Airlines, also offer the option to pay with a digital gift voucher that you first purchase with crypto. This is useful if direct payment is not (yet) possible.

Which Platforms Are Involved?

Emirates is partnering with Crypto.com Pay and will accept payments in Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), USDT, and USDC, among others, from 2026. Air Arabia, a budget airline from Sharjah, accepts AE Coin, a digital currency pegged to the dirham. Other platforms like Travala, Destinia, and Alternative Airlines offer global booking capabilities and accept dozens of types of crypto.

These platforms differ in user-friendliness, supported currencies, and service fees. For example, on Travala you can pay with BTC, ETH, USDT, BNB, and AVA. Alternative Airlines also accepts coins like Dogecoin, Litecoin, and XRP.

What Should You Consider?

Although it is convenient to pay with crypto, it is wise to consider a few things. For instance, always check the transaction fees and exchange rates. Only choose reliable, regulated platforms and keep your payment receipts safe in case something goes wrong.

For frequent travellers who already hold crypto, using digital currencies as a payment method can be a convenient and fast solution. Stablecoins such as USDT and USDC are often recommended due to their low volatility.
