Parking at Dubai International Airport will become significantly faster and easier from today, 22 January 2026. Dubai Airports has announced that all parking facilities at the airport will be integrated with the Salik system. This means motorists with a Salik account will soon be able to enter and exit the car park without having to stop once for a ticket or payment.
The operation is essentially the same as the toll gates you already know from Dubai’s highways. As you drive onto the car park, the system automatically detects your vehicle. When you drive away, the parking fee is deducted directly from your Salik e-wallet. No more hassle searching for change, no queues at payment machines, and no frustration at the exit barriers.
The new system applies to all parking facilities at Dubai International Airport. This includes Terminal 1, Terminal 2, Terminal 3, and the Cargo Mega Terminal. In total, this makes a substantial 7,400 parking spaces now accessible contactlessly.
From Toll Gate to Car Park
The agreement between Dubai Airports and Salik runs for a period of ten years. This is not without reason, as traffic at the airport is only increasing. Dubai International Airport recently reached a new record with 324,000 passengers in a single day. With such numbers, every second saved when entering and exiting the car park makes a real difference.
For those concerned about being forced to have a Salik account, this is not the case. Traditional payment methods will remain available. The contactless system is an additional option for those who wish to use it, not a replacement for existing methods. So, if you prefer to still take a ticket and pay with cash or card, you can still do so.
Ready for the Switch
If you do want to use the new contactless system, it is advisable to check if your car is registered with Salik. Also, ensure you have sufficient balance in your e-wallet. Consider not only the parking costs but also any toll fees you may incur on the way to Dubai International Airport.
The good news is that most people need not worry. There are already 4.7 million vehicles linked to Salik accounts. Therefore, it is highly likely your car is already in the system and you can simply drive straight through from 22 January without any extra steps.
The timing of this upgrade is well chosen. Dubai International Airport continues to grow as one of the world’s busiest airports. Any improvement in traffic flow helps make the travel experience smoother. Think of those moments when you are late for your flight and there is a queue at the payment machine, or when you have just landed and only want to get home as quickly as possible. This new system will largely eliminate that stress.
The integration with Salik also fits into the broader picture of how Dubai handles smart technology. The emirate has been focusing on digitising and automating services for years to make life easier for residents and visitors. From toll roads to parking, everything is becoming increasingly seamlessly interwoven.
For those who fly regularly from Dubai International Airport, this will soon mean much greater convenience. You drive onto the site, park your car, walk to the terminal, and when you return, you simply drive away again. No hassle with lost tickets, no mumbling people in the queue in front of you, and no beeping from machines that don’t accept your notes. Just get in and drive away.
